What is Funko Pop! Vinyl dolls? New to the POP! Vinyl collection?
No prob, let's bring you up-to-date. POP! Vinyl is collectible figurines based on your favorite characters from blockbuster movies, licensed TV shows and even licensed videogames. Each one is created from high-quality PVC (plasticized vinyl) and is painted with a high degree of detail.
You can collect them as POP! Vinyl statues or as full-size collectibles. The perfect way to start collecting these items is to get started in the toy fair in June or July. My other all time favorite is the Star Wars Ahluwalia collectible from the Hasbro Star Wars line. I was so excited when I saw it in stores because it has a beautiful scene of a young Anakin Skywalker holding the Ahluwalia in his mouth. The Ahluwalia is an ancient Egyptian candy which symbolizes sweet love and power. The Wilkinsons made this a very unique item, when they obtained an original Ahluwalia from Anakin himself.
These are just some of the Funko Pop! Exclusives that are presently valued at very high prices on eBay. Many of these pops are one of a kind because they only come in one of a kind packaging. The packaging alone could be worth a few hundred dollars. My personal favorites are the ladybug and spider pop characters. Some of the most common and difficult to find Hasbro and Hot Topic exclusive pops are those which are made entirely from metal. These metallic variations usually include all the areas of the toy at a metallic crate. Each of the various Hot Topic and Hasbro versions are different colors so you can choose according to your taste and style. Hot Topic exclusives can be seen at a much cheaper price on eBay.
I recently came across an interesting new release called "Dorbz". Dorbz are plastic, diecast vinyl figurines that come with a transparent coating. They're made by Mattel, who's the parent company for both Hasbro and Viacom. The new Dorbz line carries a Daltz Christmas Tree Vinyl Figure, a Daltz Spider Vinyl Figure, and a Daltz Christmas Booster. All of these vinyl figurines are sold as singles and you can also get them in group packages.
The biggest difference between Dorbz and Funko Pop is that Funko Pop comes in a few distinct colors while Dorbz is mostly silver. There are a few special editions in each of the three collections. The fundamental, non-metal Dorbz are mostly all white. The exclusive Dorbz Articulation amounts are painted and sculpted by diecast masters, and then they are given a metallic coating to give them additional shine and life.
If you truly want to collect a whole lot of, the best way is to buy them as a group package. Currently the company is offering over 60 different Dorbz bundles which include every single POP figure in their lineup, and all their respective movie lines.
